Hi, only now realising I didn’t post yesterday. There’s actually a good reason for that, and when I say good I do mean good.
As mentioned I’m under contract for the steampunk series, I got an email from the US publisher late Thursday evening (I’m UK based so their emails tend to be later in the day). It was a very nice email asking for books 2-4 of the series.
That cheered me up a bit. And gave me a bit of a problem.
Book 2 went straight to them, because one of their editors had already edited it, and I’d responded.
Book 3 is finished, been edited by my usual structural editor, but it needed one more read through, so that’s what I was busy doing all yesterday and today. That’s now finished, so I’ve sent it off.
Book 4 – ahh, well now there’s the big problem. I haven’t finished writing book 4 yet. You’ll know from previous blogs, I’ve really struggled to write anything for some time now, what this email means is that I really need to get back to it. So far book 4 is 62k long. I’m probably about two thirds of the way through the plot. I’ve got a lot of work to do on that.
As for book 5 – totally plotted, not even started.
Why am I telling you this? Because it’s helped. More than I would have expected it to. The last few weeks I’ve been sitting on my sofa, unmotivated and largely unmoving. Today, I’ve moved to my desk. Today I’ve sat properly rather than curled up. Today, I feel like a writer and I’ve enjoyed writing. Haven’t felt like that in a long, long time.
I’ve been given a focus, and it’s helping me return to being me.
